UF’s Erving Walker Named SEC Player of the Week

Gainesville, Fla. – Following an MVP performance in helping the
University of Florida men’s basketball team to the championship of the
Legends Classic, Erving Walker was named Southeastern Conference Player
of the Week
.

The sophomore point guard averaged 12.0 points, 5,0 assists and 1.7
steals per game in a week that saw the Gators defeat rival Florida
State, followed by a win over then-No. 2 Michigan State and capped with
a victory over Rutgers, as the Gators defeated opponents from the ACC,
Big Ten and Big East.

Walker tied for the team lead in scoring against Florida State, going
for 13 points. Against Michigan State, he was scoreless before scoring
all 12 of his points in the final 6:38 of regulation, including a
three-pointer with 1:55 remaining that gave the Gators a lead they
wouldn’t relinquish. He added seven assists and three steals against
the Spartans.

He capped the weekend with an 11-point showing against Rutgers, hitting
three three-pointers and dishing out five more assists.

Walker is averaging 11.0 points, 5.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game
for the No. 13/17 Gators who face Florida A&M at the O’Connell Center
on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
