BYU now No. 9; OU drops to 13th

NEW YORK -- In the first regular-season Top 25 poll by The Associated Press, No. 9 BYU has jumped 11 spots and No. 4 Alabama has received two first-place votes.

 

The Cougars pulled the biggest upset of the opening weekend of the college football season, beating Oklahoma 14-13 on Saturday. Sooners Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford was knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury. Oklahoma drops 10 spots from No. 3 to No. 13.

Florida is still an overwhelming No. 1, receiving 56 of 60 first-place votes Tuesday. Texas holds steady at No. 2, with two first-place votes. Alabama moved up one spot after its 34-24 victory against Virginia Tech.

Moving into the rankings are Miami, Cincinnati and Missouri. Oregon, Florida State and Iowa fall out.

The worst four letters to every Alabama fan were mentioned today in Tuscaloosa: "NCAA".  Sixteen Alabama sports programs involving 201 student athletes received free text books between 2005 - 2007.

A Change in Tuscaloosa

This last week my youngest son attended Coach Anthony Grant's first summer basketball camp in Tuscaloosa. He had attended former Alabama Coach Mark Gottfried's camp last year and there was a noticeable difference.
